Amamoor Recce
When there was a fairly fine Sunday in March after a quick ring around a few of
us decided to go have a look around the Amamoor area. We meet outside the shop
in Amamoor, the crew consisted of Daz Woods lifted Impreza wagon, Jan lifted Lib
sedan, Bill Greenwood lifted L series and his friend from his work, who had just
bought a new diesel Outback, which he said was going well. Curlie lifted Lib
wagon, Dwayne Boyton lifted MY Brumby, Dane Sorensen lifted EJ powered MY Brumby
and myself and Big John in the Brumby rounded out the crew.
With the sun shinning and then a few light showers would come through, the hard
packed tracks were slippery in places. We had to give Dwayne a quick snig up
over a jump up. We all eventually made it to the muster music site for a short
break. From here we set off to do a few loops. Jan and Daz were up the front and
they found a new loop that had a good long climb with a few slippery woo boys
that caused a few problems.
We returned back to the muster site for lunch and then did a few more nearby
tracks that became pretty interesting and slippery after more showers. So we
decided to head home via the tracks through to Kandanga and Imbil. I decided to
go down a side track that we have been on before on a previous trip. It turned
out to be not a good decision, it was also getting late in the afternoon. Once
we reached the bottom gully we faced a steep rutted climb that we could not get
up. It was ok last time, but that was over a year ago [you can get that] Luckily
Jan and Bill did not follow me right down and they were able to turn around. We
also called Curlie back as he had already set off for home in the other
direction, he was carrying a big hand winch that he had recently bought. I
thought it would be a good back up, if we needed it. Jan was able to come in
from the other direction and tow me up with a few straps joined together.
From here we thought it would be wise to stay on the main tracks and head for
home.
It turned out to be a good day and we found a new loop as well. Thanks to
everyone coming along and for the team effort helping out when needed.
