Gold Coast Hinterland Run 31st August 2008

The day started at 9:00am at the BP Stapelton. The crew was Trevor and Val in the “all accessory” Brumby,  Gaven  in the Outback, Steve in the “Nean-mobile” Brumby, Graeme and Della in the “Sucked In” WRX,  Dave M in the Forester and me in the Liberty.

Heading south on the M1 we got to Robina and somebody said “lets have a look at the new Tugun bypass” - all agreed.  I have never seen a road with glass sound barriers before - the vandals love them!  7 or 8 were smashed.  It’s a great road though.

We started heading into the mountains from Currumbin.  Five minutes in I saw a sign saying “road ends 16km ahead”. WHAT!! I said to myself.  The map I got off the internet was wrong - “not good Google”!!! Finally we found somebody that could tell us it was a dead end.  Bugger - not happy Jan.

On our way back we stopped at a shop where there was an old Morris ute that was for sale. Bell was keen on it so she got the phone number and we all left.  Exiting the highway at Mudgeeaba and finally on the right road we started to climb. We were held up by a slow car - a Holden of course! He nearly had a Liberty bullbar in his boot stopping to give way to a motorbike that should have given way to us.

Arriving at Parlingbrook Falls we had lunch and a short walk to the falls. It was quite a long drop of about 100meters and very windy at the observation platform. Leaving the falls at 550m, we started the decent. We turned off to Beechmont where Graeme and Della said their goodbyes. Graeme had to start work at 7pm Sunday night.

Stopping at a lookout for photos and a chat we made our way to the hang gliders launch pad, but as the wind was blowing the wrong way there were no gliders. Continuing on down past Canungra we stopped at Logan Village where we said our goodbyes. We had a good day and only one person will get a fine -  yours truly!!
