Detailing Day
19 August,2001
| Once again, Septone provided the detailing products and members provided the dirty cars and elbow grease. | |
| It was surprising this year to see Big John do most of the work on the Pie Van himself this year, after having watched intently as Kathy cleaned his car last year. Mind you, he had an incentive to do the job properly this year, as he was about to trade in the Pie Van on a newer model Rodeo and hoped that a decent detailing job may get him a few more dollars in trade in value. And an excellent job you did, John – so no excuses next year! | |
| David turned up with his work Brumby. As you would expect, it needed a decent detailing job. But nobody expected David to be driving it around town with racing slicks on. At least that’s what the tyres looked like. Tsk, tsk, David. Anyway, it got a decent detail, including cutting and polishing out a few scratches, and David left happy. | |
| Ben was delighted when a few lantana scratches were easily removed from the Forester, returning it to mint-like condition. | |
| Gaven got into the Triton with the buffing machine to remove overspray from all over the paintwork. | |
| Everyone watched in amazement as the professional detailer, Kathy, hit the inside of the Mazda’s doors with the Gerni. With high pressure water going everywhere, the tarps and plastic sheets prevented any water damage to the more sensitive areas of the vehicle. | |
| Rik, as you would expect, spent most of his time cleaning under the bonnet. | |
| Shane worked hard on his MY sedan, and managed to get some life back into the faded black rubber bumpers. | |
| Peter Algate spent a worthwhile morning (even after his
sleep in) improving the appearance of his Brumby |
|
| But the best effort was saved for last. Dwayne turned up with his touring wagon,
admitting that it had not been cleaned for a year. And it showed. But after a few hours of hard sweat with the
buffing machine (and not by Dwayne, I might add) the car shone like it had just come from the factory floor. Good
enough for another year, eh? |
|
| By the way, lunch was a feast. A huge bucket of KFC with the trimmings,
washed down with a couple of samples of amber fluid. Courtesy of a lucky find of a $50 note the day before in the
pub at Leyburn.
So if your car is beginning to look a little jaded, make a note in the diary for next August. |
