Detailing Day

20 August 2000

We all arrived at the Clubroom at 8am and Greg and I set up all the cleaning products, etc. John McKenna and Peter Brown had kindly provided us with two water pressure cleaners. I started off by doing an engine degrease on John’s car and everyone soon followed suit.

That saw some interesting results and quite a bit of waiting for a turn with the Gerni’s. Cameron didn’t realise he had things like paint and chrome under the bonnet, while Rik had oil everywhere after losing his oil cap a few weeks previous.  Outback Andrew turned out to be the best Gerni hog and got suitably fined. The cars were washed before lunch as well. I was still working on the Pie Van and John was doing a good job watching the proceedings. Peter Brown decided to shoot home at lunch and came back with a second car to clean. Alas, another fine. Simone showed up having washed her car on the way. Another fine.

After lunch we got stuck into the interiors of our cars and I must say, John does carry some (what I call) junk. Arnold and Pat successfully removed a few grease stains in their rather new Forester while Cameron and Simone polished the bullbar on the MY and it came up like brand new. Camo got a fine for not doing the job by himself.

While I cleaned the inside of John’s car I convinced him to give the car a polish (I told him not to let me loose with polish, as I’m a bit too rough and ready with it). And thanks John for getting your car as filthy as you could. I’m surprised you didn’t try to find a mud pit on the way, then again maybe you did.

Between Rik and Greg they managed to buff some deep scratches out of Pat and Arnold’s Forester, and Ron’s Challenger.

I think Peter Gates’ L Wagon came up the best. Dwayne Boyton had the dirtiest car. Gaven and Angela showed up and did some interior work later in the afternoon. Unfortunately one car left as dirty as it had arrived. My poor Mazda.

I’d like to give thanks to Septone Products as they had kindly donated the many cleaning chemicals we had to use throughout the day. It appeared to be successful as people were talking of making it a regular event.
