We headed off Saturday morning at 8.30am and arrived at Somerset Dam exactly two hours later. Running into Brian and Petra and the cute twins (boy have they grown), we drove together to the campsite. It was a beautiful day - great for water sports and to celebrate my birthday with great people. It was also Petra's birthday. By the time we arrived a bunch of club members were already setting up - some staying for the weekend, others opting for a day trip only. I must say where did the day go? Both Jody and John were running boat cruises around the dam. Rik, Kathy and I decided to go for a swim first as it was quite hot and the water looked all so inviting after the long drive. A bit slimy under foot though - Yuk, time for a nice cold beer! Rik and Kathy returned to the campsite for lunch and I waited for Graeme to return from the Peterson cruise so I could have a go. I waited and waited and waited. They must have been having a great time. After having a chat with Glenys, who found a nice shady tree to sit under, they returned for lunch. After lunch it was time to have a cruise in the John's home- built craft. Rik, Kathy and Greg decided on a relaxing arvo at the campsite and threw back a few coldies. The rest of us headed off in John and Jody's boats. Out came the tube, which I had a go on. I tried to sit in the tube instead of lying in it like the others did. Very elegant I must say. John, Keith and kids had a go, and Graeme decided to give it a go too. He did well but boy did he suffer for the next five days, where he exercised muscles not used for awhile. John had a go at skiing. By this time the wind had picked up and we decided to go back to land. Jody and John went out again in Jody's boat for more Happy hour was upon us but some had started early. Back at the campsite, Simone had arrived for the night. We all had an enjoyable day and Ron and Glenys and Brian and Petra departed. After dinner we grouped for chats, drinks and a visit from a very friendly possum. Maybe it was the music of Rod Stewart filling the air that attracted him (haven't heard Rod for years). For most it was time for bed and we were entertained by a local campsite with their dog impersonations. What a laugh. Sunday we woke to a very average day - overcast and cool. What a difference to Saturday. After a lovely cooked breakfast we all headed down to the water where Jody showed us his talents with his toy power boat. it was run on high octane toy fuel. It really had some get up and go but when it stopped, well Jody had to get a little wet. He did have a few little helpers who were already in the water having a swim. "Boys and their Toys"! After morning tea Ken and Margaret turned up and we all headed out on the boats for a cruise, ski and tubing. Rik and Kathy had a go on the tube as they missed out on Saturday and Jody and Trent P had a ski doing doubles. Dave M had a go and even though he had not skied before, he made it look easy. I was told he was up first time on Saturday too. Well done Dave. We then decided to head back for lunch and packup, On arriving back a note was left by Gaven and Angela informing us they had been and gone. Sorry to miss you guys. Yes, another enjoyable weekend club trip and a nice change from 4WDriving. Must do it again soon. Thanks to Jody and John for the use of their boats and water gear and thanks to Jody for a superb weekend.
