Convoy Procedures
Club convoy procedures are as follows:
Observe Main Roads Dept and Motor Traffic Regulations.
All vehicles are responsible for the following vehicles, when turning offroad and at cross-roads if there is no vehicle in sight - WAIT.
Any vehicle leaving the convoy for any reason shall wave the remainder of the convoy through and inform 'Tail-end Charlie' of intentions.
Trip leader shall appoint 'Tail-end Charlie' for each trip.
No vehicle shall pass the trip leader except in an EMERGENCY
Each driver shall keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front at all times. More so in hilly country or after fording when brakes are wet. In doing so, the driver should still endeavour to keep the vehicle in front in sight to ensure a smooth running convoy.
In the event of winching or snatch'em strap being necessary, the operator will automatically be in charge of the situation.
Second vehicle in the convoy will pull aside and close gates. This vehicle will then rejoin the convoy in front of 'Tail-end Charlie'.
Should the convoy become separated and you reach an intersection where there are no obvious vehicle indications of the next stage, you shall pull to the side of the road and wait for a member of the previous party to return. DO NOT proceed any further.
If a driver requires assistance he is to flash his headlights repeatedly or call on uhf radio.
All vehicles on trips should have towing points securely fixed and carry a minimum amount of recovery equipment as specified previously (see Penfold pack).
All drivers are responsible for their passengers at all times.
CB radio users to transmit on one channel only while on convoy unless cleared with Trip leader. The designated channel is usually UHF Channel 10 that the club uses.
