Pete's Brumby

I took hold of my 1990 Brumby in October 2000, as a replacement for my old Nissan sedan which was slowly dying on me (cracked manifold for instance).
The Brumby I purchased was completely stock with only 133,000kms on the clock.

At first I was fine with a stock Brumby, it got me to Fraser Island and back at Christmas 2000 and on several club trips in 2001 but it wasn't till the Spicers Gap trip of April 2001 that I realised modifications were needed.  The first thing I did was add an overbar.  The bar itself was created by Shane Taylor, a fellow club member, who had it attached to an old MY Wagon he owned.  The bar itself includes spotlight and UHF mounts as well but these items are yet to be attached.
An overbar (bullbar) was great but what was really bogging me down (literally) was the absence of a lift kit.  After searching through the Trading Post one week I found an 82 MY Wagon with lift kit, big wheels
and several other parts for $500.  After towing this wreck home (the second Subaru I've ever owned) I enlisted the help of Shane again as we took out the 2 inch Scorpion kit from the wagon and attached it to the Brumby.  I also used the 14 inch Speedy style rims from the wagon to help give the Brumby that extra height advantage.  Toyo HO2's are wrapped round the wheels nicely and with their 8 ply rating, they should last a long time.

For his help in all this I allowed Shane free range of the rest of the wagon which included (amongst other things) a drivetrain, panels and engine accessories.

I've also installed a custom sound system with the help of Complete Car Sound at Enoggera on Brisbane's northside.  Complete attached a Pioneer head unit with 6 stack CD and tape/radio capabilities.  This was a custom install to match the custom door trims housing Kenwood 6 inch speakers.  The Brumby also has an Agquip style rear foot shelf bumper, not normally featured on Brumby's.

Future mods include large spotties and a UHF, however I'm quite happy with the way the car looks and is running so I probably won't go for a turbo engine transplant or roll bars/sports bars.  And for the record, as of March 2002 the Brumby has 153,000kms on the clock.
